You Might Need Therapy?
Starting counseling is a big step and I am so glad that you are here. Below is a little bit about what to expect.
About Heidi:
I have been a Licensed Counselor since 2011. Prior to that, I have been working in the helping profession since 2002.
I have also had the unique experience of growing up overseas in a Third World Country (Quito, Ecuador). I love to volunteer in our community (as a CASA volunteer, a Board Member for the Teen Action Support Center, and at my local church). While I do have a faith background, I am committed to meeting you right where you are at. This means that I will never impose my own worldview onto you.
Your journey is your own and I will walk with you towards your set goals.
What to Expect from sessions:
Please expect each meeting to last between 50-55 minutes. The first session will mostly be getting to know each other. I will ask you questions like why you decided to come to therapy. It’s okay if it feels like “word vomit”. It’s also okay if there are things that you don’t feel comfortable sharing just yet. I will move at your pace. Similar to a physical workout, you can expect counseling to feel like an emotional workout. This means that you will likely feel tired, sometimes sore (depending on how intense the workout was).
But you will also hopefully feel energized and lighter.
And, if you’re anything like me, you won’t always want to go but you are always glad that you did!
Scheduling:
Once you are in my system, you will have access to my calendar.
This will allow you to have control over frequency and adding/canceling appointments
Frequency:
I like to recommend starting at every 1-2 weeks. Eventually, we may start decreasing the frequency.
I also have many clients who move to an “as needed” schedule. This way, there is relief in knowing that I am there if you ever need me. Be advised that, when you are first starting, there might be a bit of a wait to have your first session.
For this reason, I recommend scheduling out at least 2-3 sessions.
I also recommend that you check my calendar periodically, as cancellations often become available.
